Small-space End Table/Nightstand

Constructed from inexpensive pine boards and plywood, this project starts by cutting the boards to size and adding decorative tapers to the legs using a tapering jig. The side panels are assembled with pocket screws and glue, ensuring a strong and durable frame. The lower shelf is positioned using a spacer for consistent alignment, and drawer runners are installed before the final assembly to make sure the drawers slide smoothly.

The drawers themselves are simple plywood boxes with hardboard bottoms, reinforced with rabbeting for a snug fit. Stop blocks prevent the drawers from sliding out too far, and the edges of the plywood top are finished with iron-on edge banding for a polished look.

Once assembled, the table is painted, and the drawer runners are treated with a paste wax for a smooth glide.
